What is the most important tool in limiting the spread of HIV/AIDS? Education.
At Support For International Change (SIC), an organization dedicated to limiting the impact of HIV/AIDS in underserved communities, we offer volunteer programs that allow university students and recent alumni a chance to make an impact in Tanzania.
Our volunteers have the opportunity to live with a host family and work alongside local Tanzanians to directly impact rural communities. Each program begins with an intensive expert-led orientation where volunteers are educated about HIV, our organization and global health before beginning their field experience running an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign.
Here’s what one of our previous volunteers, Huan Dong, said about this experience.
“My experience volunteering with Support for International Change’s HIV Awareness Campaign was simply life changing. Beyond providing HIV education and testing to rural villagers in Tanzania, I was able to learn about global health, different cultures, and even a bit of Swahili.
I never expected that I would have such a great impact on the people that I met, and I never expected to have been so greatly impacted myself.
